AFRICA CODE WEEK/KIDS CODE CHALLENGE

Kids Code Challenge builds on the skills acquired during the Africa Code Week, which has introduced over 10 million young learners in Africa to coding, 50% of these being girls.

Bootcamps for African children, majority of whom must be girls. *Teachers and university students are also trained to mentor the young ones effectively.

Kids Code Challenge builds on previous introduction to coding sessions already implemented that were generously funded by SAP, UNESCO, Google and Liquid Intelligent Technologies. The round the year program has been launched as it is critical to ensure that the learning is sustainable and available at all times, and that new technologies are introduced.

The following bootcamps are currently running:

TOPICS

1. Computer / coding basics. Online Safety and Cyber Security. Internet Governance.

(content supported by SAP, Google, Internet Society, the International Telecommunication Union - ITU and Communications Authority - CA).

2. Introduction to new technologies - Animation, Artificial Intelligence, Block chain, Data Analytics, Mobile Apps, Internet of Things - IOT, Robotics.

(content supported by UNESCO, MIT and private sector)

Currently onboarding Microsoft, IBM and Intel.

3. Digital4Sustainability.

(content supported by the United Nations and Internet4Dev Global Community)

The Challenge also partners with Stemtrix to bring the Lego Robotics Competition resources to learners.

We are looking to raise £500,000 in the next year to reach 10,000 beneficiaries.

Thanks to some, IN KIND donations, (devices, venues, training material, trainers etc), this comes down to only £50 per beneficiary for the whole year. One can also choose to self sponsor or sponsor their community, school, family or group of friends/colleagues. Join the movement.

PS: We have recently introduced a cost sharing model where we match what the partner has raised in order to increase impact. (*Hinges on the availability of funds)
